How do we save the U.S. from oil and polution and conserve energy?

I have a few ideas:

Drive biodiesel cars
Drive electric cars(also advance battery tech)
Drive biodiesel-electric hybrid cars(I just thought of that)
Drive hydrogen cars

Use solar panel technology on a HUGE scale(like a ton of roofs)
Use hydroelectric power
Use wind power

Use high-power L.E.D’s instead of incandescents or fluorescents (they can be REALLY bright and use 1/10 the power of stupid incandescents)

Any more ideas?
I never said ethanol, which is not efficient.
