Is it technologically possible by now to deploy a solar power,space based energy weapon(say lasers).?

I looked @ a pic in popular mechanics or something a few days ago on what it seemed to be a space based laser system. If not actually up in orbit now,could it be possible to build one nowadays,using today’s technology.
